11 Date Nights In (when you have kids)

“Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” Romans 12:10

Date nights are hard to come by with kids. But it’s so important to keep them a priority for our relationships to grow. Blake and I make sure to have one date night a week (atleast!) It keeps us on the same page and connected. You might be thinking a date night once a week? Where do you find the time? Or the money? Or the babysitters? We’ve gotten really creative with dating since adding to our family. I hope these ideas help you plan your next date night and bless your marriage like it has ours!

We used to go dancing when we first met. Long before sleepless nights and diapers. We loved just spending time together, whether that was out on the town or watching a movie at home. When we had our kids, it was hard to feel like doing anything because we were so tired. Our date nights slowly faded away. We were both burnt out. We were trying too hard and needed a break. I’m sure there are plenty of moms and dads out there that have felt this way at one time or another. Soon the babies slept and life went back to a new normal. We were getting rest and feeling like our relationship was missing something. Date night. We were finally to a point where we could go on a real date again. Instead of going out to dinner, I decided to pinterest at home date ideas. We like being home more now anyway, so having date nights in are perfect for us! Because we both love traveling, but doing so with such small babies would have been quite hard, I chose “Around The World” as the theme of our date.

I chose several countries that we would like to explore together. Then looked up recipes for those countries and made mini plates of everything from churros for Spain to crème brûlée for France and sushi for Japan! It was one of our favorite date nights we’ve ever had! We also love board games so we played risk together!

Date Night ideas:

Themed Date nights: Pinterest has great ideas for any theme you’re looking for! These work great for surprise date nights in! From Avengers theme to romantic around the world!

Stargazing: When the kids go to bed, lay out a blanket and pillows on the grass and snuggle under a blanket and stare at the sky together. This is such a relaxing date night! You can include the kids on this too or just make it your time to unwind & relax together!

Youtube Cooking Class: Search for a new recipe on pinterest or youtube then watch a How To! Such a fun way to spend time together! Blake loves this one because he loves cooking!

Dinner + A Movie: There’s nothing wrong with being old school! We do these often! One of us will cook and one will prepare the popcorn & snacks for a movie we’ve been wanting to see.

Board Games: Board games are fun, especially when you make “date night rules” For example, everytime one of you lands on GO, you have to kiss! This is fun with any game! You can even make up your own game!

Poker: While we’re talking about games, go ahead and try card games too! (wink, wink!)

Massages: Ahhhh, one of my favorite dates! I love a good massage. I love feeling relaxed in general. Light some candles and get the oil ready!

Plan A Vacay: Plan your next trip in bed together, even have breakfast for dinner in bed and plan that next vacation!

Learn A New Language Together: We love this one as well! We use the app DUOLINGO and it has so many languages to choose from and the best part is it’s free!

Date Night In Subscription Boxes: These are great because you get a new theme each month! They vary but usually come with games & decorations, or recipes and activities for you to try together! Such an exciting twist on date night!

Devotionals: We do a devotional everyday, but if you don’t, this would be a great date night ice breaker! It helps us communicate better and really get through to one another!

I hope some of these ideas spark your creativity & bless your marriage! Do you have a go to date night? Let me know in the comments! Thank you for reading! XOXO, Mama Morse
